Saddams Absence on Ballot Thrills Iraqis

In the "triangle of death," where voting is a life-threatening experience, Karfia Abbasi held up her ink-stained finger, elated that for the first time she has been able to cast a ballot for someone besides Saddam Hussein.

"This is democracy," Abbasi said. "This is the first day I feel freedom."

But that doesn't stop the John Kerry and the rest of the liberal party-poopers from trying to rain on the parade. (Agence France-Presse Story Here) Did you notice it's French!!!!

"This election is a sort of demarcation point, and what really counts now is the effort to have a legitimate political reconciliation," Kerry said.

This Is What Happens When Bureaucrats Get A Hold Of Good Policy

School administrators in Lincoln, RI cancelled a spelling bee because they say it violates the Federal No Child Left Behind Act.

Government bureaucrats are notorious for taking the easy way out when it comes to compliance with the law. Consider the following two examples:

1. The Federal Title IX law requires colleges and universities to spend the same amount of resources on women's intercollegiate athletics as they do on men's. And while supporting women in athletics is a great idea, the implementation of this idea has resulted in the elimination of may small college football programs. Why?

Football (which is predominantly a male sport) is the most expensive sport by far on most college campuses. So in order to comply, many schools have opted to eliminate their football programs rather than add other women's sports. Problem Solved? I think not! Women get no more funding than they got before and men lose out on the chance to play football at the college level.

2. In attempting to meet standards put forth in most affirmative action programs, admissions officers lower admission standards for under-represented populations in order to increase their enrollment on college campuses. This is instead of identifying students in these identified groups who have the potential to succeed and then providing them with the tool they need to compete on a level playing field. The problem is many of these students never graduate because they were not properly prepared to do so.

The fact is these bureaucrats almost always take the road of least resistance. And that is why so many good public policy ideas turn into bad bureaucratic programs

California Legislator Calls For The Death Of The Innocent In Iraq!

During debate on a resolution celebrating the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, CA Assemblywoman Lori Saldana (D) lamented that female soldiers in Iraq did not have access to abortions.

First of all, why are we celebrating the death of 45 million babies? And second, I thought liberals were against killing the innocent in Iraq.

I guess they don’t care about killing innocent American babies.

Democrats Just Don't Get It!

They are quibbling over $80 million in tax credits for employers who brought in around $335 million in annual state income tax via their employees. Then they wonder why employers are leaving the state.

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting:

The companies that received rebates Tuesday are responsible for more than 40,000 jobs in California, which pay an average salary of $90,000, said Carl Guardino, the head of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group. Even though the companies were able to effectively zero out their state income-tax liability, they still paid sales tax, property taxes and payroll taxes, he said.

So let's do the math:

40,000 Jobs Created
$90,000 Average Income Per Job Created

40,000 X 90,000 = $3.6 billion in annual income

The top tax rate in California is 9.3%

$3.6 Billion X 9.3% = $335 million in annual tax revenue

So in exchange for a one time tax credit of $80 million the state gets $335 million every year those jobs are still in California, plus all the other taxes these employers are required to pay.

But Democrats would rather jump over dollars to save dimes. That is why they continue to chase employers out of the state.

``I can promise Ms. Migden something: She will never, ever, ever have to worry about my company building a plant in California again and getting insulted when we ask not to be taxed for the privilege of building a plant,'' he said. ``We'll go somewhere else where they not only do not tax us for building a plant, but they actually give us incentives and credits and subsidies to create jobs.''

Reverse RobinHood... Steal from the Poor and Give to the Government!

I always knew that Social Security was a rip-off. But it appears to be discriminating in who it rips off as well.

A study done by the Heritage Foundation points out that because life expectancies and incomes differ for varying segments of society, so does the amount each group can expect to receive from social Security. And what group has proven to be the biggest victim of the Social Security Scam... African Americans.

But the most tragic examples of Social Security's reverse-Robin Hood effect occur in congressional districts heavily populated by African-American workers. Here we see negative rates of return so high that one wonders how a hard-working young man in an inner-city neighborhood in Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlanta or New York City can ever move up the socio-economic ladder.

For example:

The most senior Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, the vociferous Charles Rangel (Harlem), and his thoughtful colleague, William Jefferson (New Orleans) , will have to defend this arrangement in spite of near-confiscatory rates of return of negative 4.5% for young male workers in their districts.

NEGATIVE 4.5%!!!!!!

I'm no EF Hutton, but listen up! Even I know that's a bad investment.

Connerly Moves On...

As Ward Connerly completes his 12 year term as a Regent for the UC System many are thankful. Some are glad to see him go. And others are grateful he was there.

I believe that he has been instrumental in forcing us to face and address the issue of race relations in this nation. Thanks to him, we have discovered that there are varying opinions on how far we have come. Like Bill Cosby of late, Ward Connerly said what no one else was willing to say. However, unlike Cosby, he was forced to endure an onslaught of personal attacks that no man deserves.

But what strikes me most is the character and integrity with which he faced this abuse. In the face of nasty name calling and constant ridicule, Mr. Connerly always carried himself with style and class. And while he and I disagreed on some issues, he never let that keep him from supporting me as I worked to improve the disadvantaged community where I live and he grew up in.

Few figures have been as controversial over the last 10 years. But I am sure Ward Connerly is not done yet.
