VOTEYESMARRIAGE.COM BLASTS AB 849, THE DEMOCRAT POLITICIANS’ SAME-SEX ‘MARRIAGE’ BILL

Sacramento – The VoteYesMarriage.com coalition, which is aiming to put a state constitutional amendment on next year’s ballot to protect marriage rights for one man and one woman, is blasting a high-profile bill that would delete a man and a woman from California marriage law.

AB 849, which would require all California counties to issue “gay marriage” licenses, is on the floor of the California State Senate. If passed this week, it would mark the first time that a legislative body in the United States has repealed the people’s vote on marriage. Five years ago, 61% of California voters approved Proposition 22 to keep marriage between a man and a woman. In Article II, Section 10(c) of the California Constitution, the Legislature is specifically prohibited from repealing voter-approved initiatives.

At a news conference today outside the State Capitol, VoteYesMarriage.com blasted AB 849 as “a mark of a dictatorship, not of a democracy.” “How dare Mark Leno and the Democrat politicians destroy the definition of marriage and tear up the people’s vote,” said VoteYesMarriage.com spokesman Randy Thomasson, a proponent of the Voters’ Right to Protect Marriage Initiative , who was flanked by pro-family citizens. “The Democrats’ attack upon marriage makes people angry; the trashing of their vote makes them even more angry.”

“Debra Bowen, Deborah Ortiz and Jackie Speier will definitely harm their chances for statewide office if they overturn California voters on something as sacred as marriage between a man and a woman,” added Thomasson, referring to state senators running for Secretary of State, Insurance Commissioner, and Lieutenant Governor, respectively. “And if Mike Machado votes to create ‘gay marriage’ licenses, he can say good-bye to his dream of being elected to higher office,” said Thomasson, referring to the undecided senator who represents San Joaquin and Solano counties, which overwhelmingly voted for Proposition 22.

VoteYesMarriage.com is calling upon Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to announce that he will veto AB 849 if it reaches his desk. “It’s high time for the ‘Terminator’ to tell us this bill is ‘dead meat’ if it lands on his desk,” said Thomasson.

Also speaking at today’s news conference was VoteYesMarriage.com proponent Ed Hernandez. “Why are the Democrat legislators attacking the democratic vote of the people?” asked Hernandez. “If the Legislature flushes the people’s vote on marriage down the drain, the people will rise up, override the politicians and the judges, and protect marriage rights for one man and one woman in the state constitution.
