Study shows California ranks at the bottom in job opportunities and job quality

According the liberal leaning Political Economy Research Institute, California ranks 47th out of the 50 states in number of job opportunities and 40th when it comes to job quality.

Their Work Environment Index breaks down California as follows:

Overall WEI Rankings
#33 California

Overall WEI score (Average of components)
51

State-by-state WEI component ranks (scores)

Job Opportunities
47 (27.6)

Job Quality
40 (38.9)

Workplace Fairness
9 (85.8)

So if California is doing so poorly when it comes to creating job opportunities, in particular quality job opportunities, why are we so insistent to initiating policies that will chase employers out of the state?

Tax Break for Aspiring Witches…Only in the Netherlands!

As if their support of child pornography and same sex marriage weren’t enough to prove that the Dutch were out there, this one should cement it. Apparently they are not offering tax breaks for the study of Witchcraft.

Associated Press is reporting:

Dutch witches were guaranteed a financial treat when the Leeuwarden District Court reaffirmed their legal right to write off the costs of schooling - including in witchcraft - against their tax bills. Those costs run to thousands of dollars.

The court found on Sept. 23 that a witch can declare schooling costs if it increases the likelihood of employment and personal income.

I wonder what kind of job opportunities there are for aspiring Witches. If Hilary wins (God forbid) I'm sure they will find work ing the the new Clinton administration.

Unions Attack Arnold Supporter…Check out the video!

I just got this video clip via email and had to post it. It shows the true nature of the liberal left and the violent tactics that unions use against anyone who disagrees with them.

California Conservatives for Truth writes:

Public employee union activists showed the utter hypocrisy of their campaign against the special election initiatives on Thursday at a rally in LA’s Pershing Square.

While $115 million has been spent by public employee unions to oppose the reform initiatives and promote a message that the voices of their members will be silenced if Prop 75 passes, an angry mob of dues paying union members showed what little respect they have for free speech.

"A single Schwarzenegger supporter struggles to hold her ground in a rally against the governor’s special election initiatives. Opponents tried to hit her with their signs and some blocked news cameras as she argued her point. The crowd turns quickly, grabbing her signs and tearing them up. Even a woman wearing an orange security vest rips up the “Vote Yes” signs.” (CBS 2 News, October 28, 2005)

Two Los Angeles television stations caught on tape a hyped up mob of union activists intimidating and roughing up a woman who had the courage to speak out in favor of the four reform initiatives.

Whipping the crowd into a frenzy was none other than Speaker Fabian Nunez, who was a featured speaker at the rally in Pershing Square. At the very least, Nunez - a former union organizer himself - has a duty to issue a public apology to this woman on behalf the union bosses who control him. That is, unless the Speaker believes that violence and thuggery are acceptable forms of public expression.

Was Harriet Miers setup for failure?

I haven’t commented at all on the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, because I really wasn’t sure what to think of her. Like many, I was hoping that something… anything would come out to shine light on her candidacy and explain why President Bush thought she was a good choice to serve on the Supreme Court. That something never showed up. That ace in the hole was never played. And now that Miers has withdrawn her name from consideration, one is left thinking….Why did President Bush set Miers up to failure?

How could he (or his staff) not foresee the eventual challenges that Miers would face? While no one of the knocks against her was enough to thwart her confirmation; all of them together were too much to ignore. She’s never served as a judge. She has little to no experience in constitutional law. Nothing in her resume, as impressive as it was, stood out as uniquely qualifying her to serve on the highest court in the land. And she has not written one thing that could be considered demonstrative of super intellect or understanding of constitutional law.

Then there are all the debacles that have taken place since her nomination. There was her declaration that Warren Berger, who voted in favor of Rove v. Wade was her favorite Supreme Court Justice, the anemic job she did of selling herself in individual meetings with Republican Senators and the fact that she did so poorly on her senate questionnaire that they had to give her a second shot at it. It was all so bad that I had to ask myself, “What was the President was thinking?”

The truth is…I really don’t know. I wish I could intellectualize for you the White House’s strategy on this nomination. But I can’t for the life of me figure it out.

Democrat Legislator breaks ranks to endorse Prop. 77- the Redistricting Initiative.

The following is an Associated Press Story released this afternoon.

Lawmaker who voted for current districts backs redistricting

SACRAMENTO (AP) A Northern California lawmaker broke ranks with fellow Democrats on Monday and endorsed Proposition 77, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's attempt to take away the Legislature's power to draw legislative and congressional districts.

``The only way we're going to be able to get electoral reform is through the initiative process,'' said Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla, D-Pittsburg. ``If we fail in this effort we are providing a mandate for those who want to keep the status quo.''

Proposition 77 would give redistricting duties to a panel of three retired judges and require them to draw new lines in time for the 2006 elections. Most Democrats have characterized the measure as an attempt to elect more Republicans, although some Republican congressmen also oppose the proposal.

Paul Hefner, a spokesman for the No on 77 campaign, noted that Canciamilla voted for the current districts, which lawmakers drew after the 2000 national census.

Schwarzenegger has cited those districts, which were designed to maintain the Democratic and Republican balances in the Legislature and California's congressional delegation, as evidence of the need for change.

Hefner also said the Legislature's top Democratic leaders had expressed a ``strong willingness to pursue real reform as opposed to the power grab that Prop. 77 represents.''

Canciamilla said he was a freshman lawmaker when he voted for the current districts. ``I didn't view it at that time as that big an issue,'' he said.

``I was new. I thought that was the way things were done. I didn't realize how dysfunctional the climate here was.

``The difficult issues that we need to deal with and address aren't being done because of partisan politics and a lack of open debate. I believe that safe districts and lack of a fair redistricting process help support that kind of dysfunction.''

Study shows Parental Involvement Laws reduce teen abortion rates…Vote Yes on Prop 73!

Opponents of Prop 73 (The Parental Notification Initiative) have repeatedly stated that parental notification laws have no affect on abortion rates amongst minors. Well an unpublished study by Michael J. New Ph.D. at the University of Alabama shows that to be a bold faced lie.

In his study Analyzing the Effect of Pro-Life Legislation on the Incidence of Abortion Among Minors, New points out the following:

In 1990 Minnesota passed a parental involvement law
In 1989 the teen abortion rate was 12.92 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
In 1999 the teen abortion rate was 6.00 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
A decline of 53.6%

In 1993 Mississippi passed a parental involvement law
In 1992 the teen abortion rate was 7.29 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
In 1999 the teen abortion rate was 3.44 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
A decline of 52.8%

In 1989 Georgia passed a parental involvement law
In 1988 the teen abortion rate was 18.33 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
In 1999 the teen abortion rate was 11.42 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
A decline of 37.7%

In 1991 Nebraska passed a parental involvement law
In 1990 the teen abortion rate was 13.31 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
In 1999 the teen abortion rate was 6.85 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
A decline of 48.5%

In 1997 Virginia passed a parental involvement law
In 1996 the teen abortion rate was 15.10 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
In 1999 the teen abortion rate was 11.23 abortions for every thousand women age 13-17
A decline of 25.6%

Source for Abortion Data, Center for Disease Control
Source for Legislation, NARAL’s Who Decides?

And while planned parenthood will argue that teens will simply leave the state to obtain an abortion, New refutes that assumption in a letter he wrote to the LA Times stating:

…there is no scholarly consensus that any reductions in abortions caused by parental involvement laws are offset by increases in neighboring states. In fact, separate academic studies that have examined parental involvement laws in Mississippi, Massachusetts, and Minnesota have found that these laws have lowered the number of abortions performed on minors both inside and outside state boundaries.

Please share this study with everyone you know. Don’t count on the MSM to report this information. They will continue to perpetuate the lie of Planned Parenthood and the Abortion Industry.

It’s up to us to get the truth out there!

"Wealth Tax" Initiative qualifies for circulation in California…

Unlike Prop 63, which increased taxes on the wealthy to pay for mental health or Rob “Meathead” Reiner's initiative that would increase taxes on high income earners to pay for universal preschool; this proposed initiative is labeled exactly what it is …A Wealth Tax!

The California Secretary of State’s Office issued the following press release:

Proposed Initiative Enters Circulation

Wealth Tax. Tax Rates. Tax Credits. Initiative Constitutional Amendment and Statute.

Sacramento, CA - Secretary of State Bruce McPherson announced today that the proponent of a new initiative may begin collecting petition signatures.

The Attorney General’s official title and summary is as follows:

WEALTH TAX. TAX RATES. TAX CREDITS. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AND STATUTE.

Imposes one-time 45% tax on California residents and certain former California residents owning property worth more than $40 million on January 1, 2007. Amends Constitution to exempt this tax from 1% limit on ad valorem real property taxes. Imposes additional 12% tax on income for high-income taxpayers. Reduces corporate income tax rate by approximately 54%. Eliminates alternative minimum tax and certain tax credits, including those for head of household and dependants. Creates/increases tax credits, including those for teacher pay, public college tuition; property taxes and health insurance.

Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local governments: One-time increase in state revenues potentially up to $200 billion from imposition of a wealth tax. A portion of this revenue would be required to be allocated to schools with the remainder used for other state spending or tax rebates. Annual increased state taxes – primarily from increased personal income taxes – in the low tens of billions of dollars annually, offset by a commensurate amount of state tax reductions from rate reductions and new tax credits.

The Secretary of State’s tracking number for this measure is 1157 and the Attorney General’s tracking number is SA2005RF0096

The proponent, Paul McCauley, must collect 598,105 signatures of registered voters, equal to eight percent of the total votes cast for governor in the 2002 gubernatorial election, in order to qualify the measure. The 150-day deadline to circulate petitions for this measure is March 13, 2006. The initiative proponent can be reached at 818-788-5919.

In their analysis, the non-partisan Legislative Analysts Office makes it clear that this initiative could have a devastating effect on the California economy.

…a wealth tax of the magnitude imposed by the measure would result in a significant decline in state wealth in the short term. Such a development would depress economic activity and associated revenues to the state and local governments.

The overwhelming success of Prop. 63 at the ballot box has liberals believing that California voters are more than willing to increase taxes…on other people. They may not be too off in their analysis.

Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed! Children’s book raises Hillary’s Ire…

An new children’s book bashing the left has provoked comments from the staff of New York Senator, Hillary Clinton. Apparently they do not appreciate the fact that the arch-villan of "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed!" bears an uncanny resemblance to Sen. Clinton.

The Hill reported in their Capital Living Section:

The storybook involves two young brothers who sell lemonade to pay for a swing set — the idea being that they will feel better about themselves if they earn the money to buy their own toy.

The author is Katherine DeBrecht, a journalist and member of the South Carolina Federation of Republican Women. Her book, published by World Ahead Publishing, incorporates caricatures of contemporary politicians. They include Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as Congresswoman Clunkton, who orders the boys to reduce the sugar in their lemonade and add broccoli to each glass, and Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who, as Mayor Leach, takes half the lemonade profits to purchase dustpans instead of a more charitable cause.

It sounds to me like they copied a more than just Clinton’s looks. The caricature was so true to life that Clinton’s staff had to resort to attacking Republicans instead of the merits of the books arguments.

Philippe “Salty” Reines, Clinton’s press secretary, remarked, “Can’t wait for the sequel, Help! Mom! I Can’t Read This Book Because Republicans Have Cut Literacy Programs!”

I gotta find this book!

ACTIVISM WORKS! Supervisors vote 3-2 Against Unlimited Access to Needles for Drug Addicts.

Thanks to all of you who called, faxed and emailed the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, we were able to defeat this measure that would have allowed drug addicts to purchase hypodermic needles in mass without a prescription.
The Sacramento Bee reports:
Hypodermic needles can't legally be sold to most adults without a doctor's prescription, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday, backing the status quo favored by several law enforcement leaders.

The leader of the fight against this stealth movement, wanted to send a thank you to all of you who answered the call:

Hello All...Tonight the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to deny the request of our County Health Officer to implement SB 1159 (Vasconcellos) which would enable drug addicts to purchase, without prescription, up to 10 needles at pharmacies signed on to the "Demonstration Project in Disease Prevention." (Note that there is no mention of the words "injecting drug addicts" or "needles" in this title.)

SB 1159 was pushed and funded by the Drug Policy Alliance--George Soros is the Godfather to this pro-legalization organization, Vasconcellos is now on the board of directors. All the info presented by our Health Officer was compiled by the Lindesmith Center - an arm of the DPA.

The 3 supervisors who voted down the proposal (Susan Peters, Roberta McGlashin and Don Natoli ) heard from 6 of the 7 cities in our county who all opposed the project. Law enforcement officials presented strong opposition citing enabling addicts to continue felony crime, a couple of young parents told of their children's recent needle sticks at parks and playground, a few medical people told that blood-borne viruses are spread primarily by risky sex, not needles, and that addicts die of overdose, not AIDS, and a couple citizens spoke of the need to put the safety of 99% of the public before the purported health of injecting drug users.

And the supervisors heard from MANY OF YOU WHO SENT EMAIL AND PHONE MESSAGES. And they heard, via me, from many of you dear out of state friends who sent files of backup information! It was wonderful to be able to update my "needle files" after our last "success" 10 years ago.

NOW WE MUST BE ALERT TO OTHER CITIES AND COUNTIES IN CALIFORNIA, AND OTHER STATES, AS THIS "NEEDLE ACCESS VIA PHARMACIES PROJECT" IS BEING PUSHED WITH VIGOR BY THE DPA. JUST LET US KNOW, AND WE'LL COME TO HELP YOU DEFEAT THEM.

THE REASON WE "WON" IS BECAUSE WE HAD THE CHANCE TO TELL A LOT OF PEOPLE THE TRUTH AS TO WHAT THIS IS REALLY ABOUT.

Thanks for your interest, support, and prayers!

Sac County Supervisors Consider Giving Drug Addicts Unrestricted Access to Needles

Yesterday I got a call asking for my help to stop the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors from approving a measure that would give drug addicts unfettered access to needles throughout the county. The following is from the email she sent to me:

You may know that Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at 3:30 PM, the Sacramento Country Board of Supervisors will be hearing a final discussion and will vote whether to accept a proposal which will enable drug addicts to purchase, without a prescription, up to 10 hypodermic needles at any pharmacy in the program.

I am strongly opposed to this proposal as it is very dangerous public health policy which puts 99% of the population at risk for the purported health of 1% of the population. The stated intent of the proposal is to reduce HIV, Hep C and other blood-borne disease. Extensive 2004 data by the Centers for Disease Control and the Office of National Drug Policy verify that unprotected sex, not needles is #1 cause of spread of all BBDs, and addicts die of overdose, not AIDS. This proposal, in the name of "Harm Reduction" for the user, was pushed and paid for thru the legislature last year by the Drug Policy Alliance, the George Soros-funded organization whose stated goal is to legalize all drugs. The then Senator John Vasconcellos carried the bill: he has carried all the pro-drug bills in recent years; he now is a board member of DPA!

I have seen needle access programs across the country and throughout the world. We do not want these poor souls walking around our grocery stores, and pharmacies, parking lots, river fronts, etc. Injecting drug addicts are pathetic people strung out on heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine etc.--all felony penalty drugs-- who live from one fix to another, shooting up 4-6 times a day...hoping to find a "dirty" needle with a little juice left in it. The Needle Access areas are full of people selling drugs and themselves for sex, and are involved in all crimes you can imagine.

I have attached a copy of my testimony I gave at the August 10, 2005, meeting, and have backup material for every statement I make. At the time of my testimony, I said that the action of the BD would affect everyone in Sac County, including those in the incorporated cities, and that those city councils should have a say in this issue. Three sups voted to wait for this input. Thus, Brook and I have been to 6 city council meetings in the past 3 1/2 weeks. I've had 3 minutes to speak at each! For some reason, the issue was never put on the Sac City Council agenda. Perhaps because Roger Dickinson and Ila Collin already support the proposal and do not want any rumblings from the City? Fortunately, each of the other cities will recommend the supervisors not support the proposal, but they need to hear from citizens also.

IF YOU WILL HELP, PLEASE SEND A BRIEF EMAIL MESSAGE, OR MAKE A PHONE CALL TO YOUR SUPERVISOR. ASK THAT THEY OPPOSE THE NEEDLE SALES TO ADDICTS ISSUE...It is euphemistically called the Disease Prevention Demonstration Project...item 28 on the agenda. It's especially important that those of you who live in the Carmichael area and zips 95821, 825, 864,815 and 608 PLEASE CONTACT OUR SUPERVISOR, SUSAN PETERS, AT 874-5471, EMAIL susanpeters@sacramentocounty.net. AS SHE DOES NOT REPRESENT ANY INCORPORATED CITY, SO WILL NOT GET ANY INPUT, EXCEPT FROM YOU! For the other supervisors, use the same address but add their name. If you do not know who your supervisor is, call the County Clerk 874-5411. The phone numbers are:

DIST. #1 ROGER DICKINSON - 874-5485
" 2 ILLA COLLIN 874-5481
" 3 SUSAN PETERS 874-5471
" 4 ROBERTA MCGLASHAN 874-5491
" 5 DON NATTOLI 874-5465

If you have time, and are interested, it would be great to see you at the Board meeting, Tues. afternoon-evening. Being item# 28, could make it a long wait. No one knows when the issue will be brought up. The Supervisors meet at 700 H, first floor. Good parking on G right behind the building.

Sorry for the short notice...but I just got the bright idea to call on you for help. I've been flying in circles! Call and leave messages or send emails for the supervisors any time this weekend and until Tuesday noon. Please forward this note to your friends who might care...especially about our childrens' children!

And call me if you have any questions...

Onward,

Pro-Family Pressure forces out truth on Anti-Prop. 73 Article

A Few Weeks ago in my post “Do You Support Prop. 73?” I included an excerpt from a commentary that completely misrepresented the initiative and what it did. Well thanks to pressure form those who know the truth, the author of that piece, Thomas Elias has sent a correction to the 79 clients who run his syndicated column.

The following is a press release issued this morning by the California Parent’s Rights Coalition:

SYNDICATED COLUMNIST ADMITS MISTAKE
Sends Correction to California Clients

SACRAMENTO -- In a response to claims by the California Parents Rights Coalition that he blatantly lied to the California voters in his column about Proposition 73, syndicated columnist Tom Elias admitted his mistake and sent the following clarification to his 79 California newspaper clients.

"In a previous column, Proposition 73 was mistakenly referred to as a 'parental consent' measure, requiring consent from a judge or from parents of minor females seeking abortions. It is in fact a parental notification measure, requiring (with a few exceptions) written notice to parents at least 48 hours before such procedures."

In a further statement, Mr. Elias claimed that "the error was made because I have frequently dealt with the entire issue of parental consent and simply misstated the measure."

"Thanks to Mr. Elias contacting us, we now understand that he is not being paid for his opposition to 73," said Matson Breakey, campaign coordinator for the coalition, "but his 'misstatement' was highly damaging to our efforts and created much confusion for voters."

"We hope that he will take the time in future articles to research what he is writing about before he 'mistakenly' damages another organization or effort," said Matson.

Mr. Elias wrote in a column that appeared in several California newspapers that Prop 73 required written permission from a parent or guardian. In actual fact, it only requires that a parent or guardian is notified of the impending abortion 48 hours before the procedure.

Does Planned Parenthood cover up sexual abuse of children? Listen to the tapes and judge for yourself!

Publicly, Planned Parenthood claims to encourage teens to communicate with their parents. But this simply isn’t the case. And the Traditional Values Coalition has the tapes to prove it.

(Click Here) to hear over 90 phone conversations between a 13 year old girl and Planned Parenthood abortion clinics across the state. During each conversation, the girl intimates:

1. She is only 13 years old.
2. She may be pregnant (indicating that she is sexually active.)
3. Her boyfriend is 22 years old (Keep in mind, this is most likely the guy with whom she is having sex.)
4. She doesn’t want anyone to know. (She wants to cover up statutory rape.)

And in each and every call the Planned Parenthood representative assured the minor that nobody would know she was having sex with a 22 year old man!

Woodland, Chico, Sacramento, Orange, San Diego, Bakersfield…. Clinics in over 90 cities California cities are on this list. Check out how the Planned Parenthood in your neighborhood responded to the call.

Jesse Lee Peterson & Jessie Jackson- Pimpin Race for the Right and the Left

Can you guess who made the following Statement?

Everyone knows most of black America is screwed up – immoral, dependent, weak – but so few are able to say so.

A. David Duke
B. Senator Robert Byrd
C. “Bull” Conner
D. Jesse Lee Peterson

The answer is D. Jesse Lee Peterson!

Can someone please explain to me why Jesse Lee Peterson is any less a self promoting race pimp than Jessie Jackson? Hasn't he too made his career by pandering to the lowest emotions in the hearts of Americans? The only difference is that one panders to liberals and the other to conservatives.

Liberals trot out blacks like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton or Charlie Rangel every time they need someone to play the race card against conservatives. And now conservative media outlets like Fox News and WorldNet Daily are giving place to folks like Jesse Lee Peterson; who use their black face to give voice to some very racist sentiments. Sentiments that many believe, but dare not voice out loud.

Take for example this statement offered in a recent Op-Ed published at World Net Daily:

Everyone knows most of black America is screwed up – immoral, dependent, weak – but so few are able to say so.

This opinion was not offered by Adolph Hitler, David Duke or any other well known racist. These words (which by the way have absolutely no factual basis) are those of none other than Jesse Lee Peterson.

I must admit that Peterson is correct in that too often black leadership has looked to the government to solve the deeply systemic problems in the black community. He is also right when he points out that many of the ills we face as blacks are the result of immorality, dependence and lack of accountability for our own decisions and actions. But this can be said of all Americans, not just blacks. So to declare that most of black America is “immoral, dependent and weak” is nothing more than irresponsible race-baiting designed to inflame negative, preconceived notions about black that are held by many in this country. They read Jesse Lee’s stuff and circulate it as gospel, proclaiming:

"I thought along the same lines as your sentiments, but as a white I would never voice such words for fear of being called a racist and worse." Another wrote: "Even as I sit here writing to you I'm breaking out in a sweat for fear of being called a racist." Another said: "That was an excellent article, and unfortunately it could only be said by another African-American."

Like Jackson, Peterson does not let the truth get in the way of perfectly good rhetoric. And like Jackson, he too used Hurricane Katrina as an opportunity to play the race card in his September 21st piece entitled Moral Poverty Costs Blacks in New Orleans where he wrote:

About five years ago, in a debate before the National Association of Black Journalists, I stated that if whites were to just leave the United States and let blacks run the country, they would turn America into a ghetto within 10 years. The audience, shall we say, disagreed with me strongly. Now I have to disagree with me. I gave blacks too much credit. It took a mere three days for blacks to turn the Superdome and the convention center into ghettos, rampant with theft, rape and murder.

Today, we know that most of the stories of “theft, rape and murder” were nothing more than urban legends and unsubstantiated rumors that the main stream media and politicians across the political spectrum simply accepted as fact. Even prominent conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt pointed out that race may have had less to do with what happened in New Orleans; and more to do with how it was reported by a MSM who was all too quick to believe the worst of low-income blacks. (See Hugh Hewitt Agrees...Racism Played Role in Katrina Reporting )

But did Jesse Lee change his rhetoric once his analogy was no longer applicable? Of course not!

His goal is not to tell the truth, but to stir up racial tensions by telling conservatives that liberals and blacks are what is wrong with this country. Sound familiar? This tactic is not too different from those of Jessie Jackson who has made a career of declaring to liberals that whites and conservatives are what is wrong with America.

In reality they are both right… But they are also both wrong!

At 36 years old, I am a part of the first generation to grow up after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. So unlike my father, or his father before him, I was born “Equal under the law.” But that did not mean that I was born in a system that promoted equality. 400 years of slavery, the subsequent 100 years of Jim Crow and the liberal led welfare/entitlement state did much to weaken the black man and destroy his family and community. These systems were designed to keep blacks down and that is exactly what they did. The reason many blacks have a victim mentality is that not too long ago, they were victims.

Take my father for example. He left the Air force after World War II as a fully trained and certified electrician. But he could only get a job washing cars. You see, the unions would not let him join their ranks because his father was not a union member. Never mind the fact that at the time my grandfather was working, they did not allow blacks to join the union. My mother experienced whites only drinking fountains and lunch counters. She remembers “Bull” Conner turning police dogs and fire hoses on innocent blacks like it was yesterday. These experiences are not easily dismissed by those who experience them. They play a major role in shaping one’s world view. For my parents, everything in society told them that it was government and whites who were in control…not them. And this is the world view that they have passed on to us, their children. It was their reality.

My reality is somewhat different. I can eat where I want. I can go where I want. The law states that I can not be denied any opportunity because of the color of my skin. And there are teams of lawyers, judges and politicians willing to fight to protect these rights. There are no laws preventing me from starting a business, getting a good education or supporting the political candidate of my choosing. This is part of my reality; the only part that many conservatives are willing to acknowledge.

I also realize that there are those whom I will encounter who will prejudge me based on the color of my skin, whether they admit it or not. Racism is not dead, just diminished. I also must acknowledge that the 1964 Civil Rights Act did not undo the 500 years of indoctrination and brain washing black Americans underwent. Nor did it create a level playing field in regards to asset wealth.

There were “The Haves” and “The Have Nots” and nothing happened to change the fact that blacks would be overwhelmingly in the category of “The Have Nots.” This meant that they would have much less capitol to start businesses, purchase homes or to pass on to future generations. As hard as my parents worked and as much they tried, they did not have a home or any other significant assets to pass on to their children. This is too often the norm in black America. But this is also part of my reality; the only part that many liberals are willing to acknowledge.

I don’t believe that we will ever truly address the issue of race in America until blacks and whites; liberals and conservatives are willing to accept the truth about where we have come from and where we are now. Whites cannot celebrate creating equality in the rules of the game after attempting to knee-cap the other team’s players and spotting themselves 20 points. Along the same lines, we cannot be so preoccupied with the unfairness of how things started that we spend all our time complaining to referees, thus letting the other team run up the score. This is exactly what has been taking place the last 40 years.
Not that Jessie Jackson and Jesse Lee Peterson haven't offered considerable subtance in dealing with the very serious issue of race and racism in America, but acting as race-baiting cheerleaders for their respective teams detracts from all the good w0rk in which they are involved. How can America have a frank and honest discussion about race as long as people are willing to feed into the hatred and resentment that is so deeply rooted in our society on both sides?

As for my perspective; I will say this. Being black is part of who I am. But it does not dictate who I am or who I will become. And while I cannot control the fairness of the circumstances around me, I can control how I react to those circumstances. I can choose to learn from them or whine about them. As I approach each challenge, I can choose see it as a stumbling block or a stepping stone; as an obstacle or a building block. I can choose to fight against ignorance and poverty or I can pawn it off on my children for them to fight it. These are my choices.

I have a message that I encourage every black parent…scratch that… every parent to tell their children. It is what my father told me many moons ago and it has served me well.

Life isn’t fair…GET OVER IT!

Your future will mostly be shaped by the decisions that you make, and no one else. Where you end up in life will be the result of all the choices you make, big and small. And when it is all said and done, your success or failure will be determined, not by the circumstances which you had to face, but by how you responded to those circumstances.

Planned Parenthood puts up $1.1 million to defeat Prop. 73, the Parental Notification Initiative

Compared to other measures on the November special election ballot, Prop. 73 hasn’t attracted much in the way of financial support or opposition. Also (and this is no surprise), Planned Parenthood is the largest donor to date contributing more than $1.1 million to keep parents from being knowing that their minor children are being subjected to an abortion,, an invasive medical procedure.

As reported by the California Healthcare Foundation, the top donors against Prop 73 are as follows:

1. PLANNED PARENTHOOD MAR MONTE- $343,451
2. PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF SAN DIEGO-$278,313
3. PLANNED PARENTHOOD SHASTA - DIABLO ACTION FUND- $203,677
4. PLANNED PARENTHOOD AFFILIATES OF CALIFORNIA- $191,541
5. PLANNED PARENTHOOD ORANGE AND SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES- $110,970
6. REBECCA Q. MORGAN- $100,000
7. CALIFORNIA FAMILY HEALTH COUNCIL, INC.- $50,000

TOTAL= $1,277,952

What is really disturbing is that almost all of the $1.2 million raised by Prop. 73 supporters was needed to qualify the initiative; which means that there is very little left to help pass the measure. Only $125,700 is left to fund a statewide campaign to pass one of the most important initiatives in our state has ever had a chance to vote on.

How can I make this any clearer? If you have not yet given to help pass Proposition 73… CLICK HERE AND DO IT!

Liberal Media Can't Dispute Common Sense of Parental Notification

This morning was my first interview with the liberal media on Prop. 73, the Parental Notification Initiative. The interesting part was that they could not discredit the initiative, so they went after those of us who support it.

The interview was with Stacy Taylor, a local morning show host on AM 1360, San Diego's Air America affiliate. Suprisingly, Taylor was in favor of the initiative. To him, it just made sense that parents should know if an invassive medical procedure is going to be performed on their minor child.

But his co-host was not so reasonable. He spent most of the interview decrying my prolife stance, declaring this to be part of the vast right wing conspiracy to deprive women the right to abort their babies and accusing me of trying to legislate morality. And needless to say, any attempt answer his obviously loaded questions were shouted down as soon as he didn't get the response he wanted. For example, he refused to believe that both Senators Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have stated publically that they support parental notification. He had no answer when I pointed out that in1987 a Democrat controled California Legislature passed parental consent legislation that would later be upheld by the California Supreme Court. (The court would reverse itself less than a year later after replacing a judge who supported parental rights with a more radical supporter of abortion.)

Stacy and even some of his callers seemed to have a heartfelt desire to understnd the issue. But they also had a hard time getting passed the fact that it was members of the prolife movement who were the biggest supporters of 73.

I tried to explain that abortion is such a politically charged and divisive issue that whenever one concedes that the other side might have a valid point, they are attacked and branded as a traitor. He asked why I, an obvious supporter of restrictions on abortion was on with him instead of someone who was prochoice. At the time I didn't have an answer for him except to say that 40 percent of prochoice voters polled said they supported parental notification.

But later it came to me that the reason why prochoice advocates were so quiet in their support is because they don't want to be ridiculed and berated by their liberal friends. One only listen to the visceral hatred spewed from Park's sidekick and a number of his callers to know that rational discourse is not possible with many on the extreme left (or right for that matter.)

Anyway, I think if those on the left look at this initiative with an open eye they will see that it os just common sense. I don't know Stacy Parks well but he seems to be willing to do that.

Jailed Reporter, Judy Miller signs $1.2 million book deal…That was time well spent!

Judy Miller is the New York Times reporter who refused to give up the name Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff as her source in a story she wrote on the leaked name of a former CIA agent. Despite being released by her source to give up his identity, Miller opted to spend 85 days in prison rather than release his name. Well now we know why.

The following story was in the celebrity section of the New York Post:

NEW York Times jailbird Judy Miller has landed a $1.2 million book deal with Simon & Schuster. The tome — which will presumably detail Miller's imprisonment for refusing to reveal her source in a probe about a leak of a CIA operative's name — will be edited by Alice Mayhew, who oversaw Miller's previous two books, "God Has Ninety-Nine Lives" and "Germs," huffingtonpost.com reports. After spending 85 days behind bars for refusing to name Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, as her source, Miller was set free after testifying before the grand jury on Friday about two conversations she had with him in July 2003.

Fox news reported that Libby give Miller the ok to release his name over a year ago, so there was clearly an ulterior motive behind her decision to do jail time. When reporting on rumors that such a deal was in the works, the folks on Fox and Friends pointed out that their viewers had been emailing them for quite some time predicting such a book deal.

Hat tip to the New York Post, Fox and Friends & their astute viewers.

Winnie the Pooh and Piglet Banned in the Name of Religious Tolerance

In order to avoid offending Muslim co-workers, those who work in Dudley Council, West Midlands are prohibited from displaying toy pigs; including the popular Winnie the Pooh and Piglet dolls.

The UK Sun ran the following story:

NOVELTY pig calendars and toys have been banned from a council office — in case they offend Muslim staff.

Workers in the benefits department at Dudley Council, West Midlands, were told to remove or cover up all pig-related items, including toys, porcelain figures, calendars and even a tissue box featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.

Bosses acted after a Muslim complained about pig-shaped stress relievers delivered to the council in the run-up to the Islamic festival of Ramadan.

Muslims are barred from eating pork in the Koran and consider pigs unclean.

Councillor Mahbubur Rahman, a practising Muslim, backed the ban. He said: “It’s a tolerance of people’s beliefs.”

At least they are also banning muslim extremists...

Jesus Supports Same-Sex Marriage…So says California Democrats, NOT JESUS!

Last month, as I watched to debate on the resurrected Same-Sex Marriage Bill (AB 849-Kuehl) , I suffered through the endless sea of Democrats who stood up to comment on the bill. I bit my tongue when they ignorantly compared same-sex marriage to interracial marriage. I let it go when they misrepresented the values of the founding fathers. But I utterly lost my mind when Democrat after Democrat walked to the microphone, misquoted the bible and blasphemed the word of God!

I was so angry, that they would totally pervert the word in order to pervert marriage that I could not contain myself. The worst part was that not one “Christian” conservative legislator got up to correct them. Well, thank God for Ralph Drollinger of Capitol Ministries; because he did!

In his September 6th Bible study “Does Jesus Support Gay Marriage?” Drollinger deals with the faulty presuppositions those Democrat lawmakers used to support their immoral arguments. His main points are as follows:

Faulty Presumption #1: Jesus’ highest calling is to love other people.
What the Bible Says: Jesus’ highest calling is to love God.

Faulty Presumption #2: It is unloving to oppose gay marriage, but loving to applaud and support it.
What the Bible Says: It is unloving to support sinfulness, and god judges people who applaud the sinfulness of others.

Faulty Presumption #3: Jesus supports homosexuality because he views everyone as equal.
What the Bible Says: Jesus sees everyone as equal in their ability to receive salvation. We can all accept Jesus in our hearts, ask forgiveness for our sins and turn from our wicked ways.

Faulty Presumption #4: The love of Jesus leads to moral license.
What the Bible Says: The love of Jesus never leads to sinful behavior.

Drollinger goes on to clarify exactly what the Bible does say about homosexuality, same-sex marriage and those who support these sinful behaviors. It truly is a great read!
