ACTIVISM WORKS! Supervisors vote 3-2 Against Unlimited Access to Needles for Drug Addicts.

Thanks to all of you who called, faxed and emailed the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, we were able to defeat this measure that would have allowed drug addicts to purchase hypodermic needles in mass without a prescription.
The Sacramento Bee reports:
Hypodermic needles can't legally be sold to most adults without a doctor's prescription, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday, backing the status quo favored by several law enforcement leaders.

The leader of the fight against this stealth movement, wanted to send a thank you to all of you who answered the call:

Hello All...Tonight the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to deny the request of our County Health Officer to implement SB 1159 (Vasconcellos) which would enable drug addicts to purchase, without prescription, up to 10 needles at pharmacies signed on to the "Demonstration Project in Disease Prevention." (Note that there is no mention of the words "injecting drug addicts" or "needles" in this title.)

SB 1159 was pushed and funded by the Drug Policy Alliance--George Soros is the Godfather to this pro-legalization organization, Vasconcellos is now on the board of directors. All the info presented by our Health Officer was compiled by the Lindesmith Center - an arm of the DPA.

The 3 supervisors who voted down the proposal (Susan Peters, Roberta McGlashin and Don Natoli ) heard from 6 of the 7 cities in our county who all opposed the project. Law enforcement officials presented strong opposition citing enabling addicts to continue felony crime, a couple of young parents told of their children's recent needle sticks at parks and playground, a few medical people told that blood-borne viruses are spread primarily by risky sex, not needles, and that addicts die of overdose, not AIDS, and a couple citizens spoke of the need to put the safety of 99% of the public before the purported health of injecting drug users.

And the supervisors heard from MANY OF YOU WHO SENT EMAIL AND PHONE MESSAGES. And they heard, via me, from many of you dear out of state friends who sent files of backup information! It was wonderful to be able to update my "needle files" after our last "success" 10 years ago.

NOW WE MUST BE ALERT TO OTHER CITIES AND COUNTIES IN CALIFORNIA, AND OTHER STATES, AS THIS "NEEDLE ACCESS VIA PHARMACIES PROJECT" IS BEING PUSHED WITH VIGOR BY THE DPA. JUST LET US KNOW, AND WE'LL COME TO HELP YOU DEFEAT THEM.

THE REASON WE "WON" IS BECAUSE WE HAD THE CHANCE TO TELL A LOT OF PEOPLE THE TRUTH AS TO WHAT THIS IS REALLY ABOUT.

Thanks for your interest, support, and prayers!
