Same-Sex Marriage arguments being used to support polygamy… It was inevitable!

Just as many conservatives predicted, the arguments being used by liberal politicians and judges to legalize same sex unions are now being used to support polygamy.

Citizen Link is reporting:

Some polygamy-rights groups want the practice of marrying multiple people decriminalized and are trying to leverage court decisions that granted privacy rights to homosexuals to advance their agenda.

Mark Henkel is part of one group that describes itself as an "organization of Christian polygamists."

"We're a cross-denominational para-church effort," he said, "supporting both individuals and pastors that come to this realization that the Bible does not support the Catholic invention of one man/one woman as a doctrine."

Carrie Gordon Earll, director of issue analysis at Focus on the Family Action, said while the Bible contains many stories of polygamy, the arrangements have very few happy endings. She also pointed out that it was a cultural phenomenon adopted by some leaders in ancient Israel, but the Bible never condones it.

She said the current efforts by polygamists are designed to ride the coattails of the gay-activist movement, using its court victories and mimicking its strategy.

"The polygamists are going to go through the courts just like the gay-rights activists did, because that's the only way they can move their policy agenda forward," Earll said.

"There is no limit to the deviancy of humanity. It could go to anything from bestiality to pedophilia to things we can't even imagine yet."

I have long argued that once we have crossed the line that defines marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman, there will be no rational argument for not granting marriage to any group who desires legitimacy of their relationships, no matter how depraved they may be. In violating every moral and religious tradition, historical and cultural value, legal precedent, and usurping the will of the people same-sex marriage advocates are blazing a trail of destruction for polygamists, pedophiles and who knows else to follow.

In comments made a few weeks ago to a group of high school youth, I asked the question, “Once we eliminate this very logical line in defining marriage, what standard will be left to decide who can marry? Who’s to say that a 50 year old man and a 5 year old child cannot be married?”

And to my horror, one student quickly replied, “Why not?” And not one person spoke out to answer her question.

This blurring of moral and cultural values is no accident. Homosexual activist and writer Michelangelo Signorile describes the goal in the December-January 1994 Out Magazine as "to fight for same-sex marriage and its benefits and then, once granted, redefine the institution of marriage completely, to demand the right to marry not as a way of adhering to society's moral codes but rather to debunk a myth and radically alter an archaic institution that as it now stands keeps us down."

And they claim that we are legislating morality!
