Accord on governing unified Grant district

Last spring, local officials reached a historic agreement on a plan to merge Grant with the Del Paso Heights, North Sacramento and Rio Linda school districts, creating a kindergarten-through-12th-grade system serving about 30,000 students.

The Elverta and Robla school districts, which also feed into Grant's high schools, would remain autonomous.

And consensus there was -- an unprecedented unanimity among district representatives, community leaders and county officials that had one trustee joking that the decision to schedule the meeting on Valentine's Day was a "stroke of brilliance."

"If you would've believed what people were saying years ago, it's a cold day in hell right now," joked Craig DeLuz, a Robla trustee.
